Esteban Alfaro was called upon to carry the offensive load for the San Marcos football team in its game at Hueneme last Friday and the running back gladly accepted the challenge.
Alfaro delivered by rushing for 196 yards and scoring two touchdowns, helping the Royals beat Hueneme 40-20, and give first-year coach Anthony Linebaugh his first victory.
Alfaro?s performance earned him male Athlete of the Week honors at Monday?s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
Saralisa Ortega of the Santa Barbara High golf team was honored as the female Athlete of the Week.
She earned match medalist honors for the fourth time this season in a win over Simi Valley. Ortega shot a 42, helping the Dons to their lowest team score (238) of the young season.
