Charlotte Scatliffe, the Interim Head Coach of the UC Santa Barbara women’s tennis team during the 2012 season and assistant coach to recently appointed Simon Thibodeau, has been named head coach at the University of the Pacific.
Scatliffe was a member of the Gauchos’ program for eight years, four as an All-Big West player and three as an assistant coach prior to assuming the interim head job in January of 2012.
“It is with pride and excitement for me to I announce that I have accepted the position of Head Women’s Tennis Coach at the University of Pacific this fall, Scatliffe said. “I came to Santa Barbara as a freshman. Now I look back at my journey and reflect on the eight years of passage from where a seed was nurtured and has now blossomed. It is here that I have found my calling: to be Head Women’s Tennis Coach. I am honored to plant myself at the University of Pacific where I believe I will continue to flourish and bloom along with the wonderful people of the University of Pacific and their community at large.”
Scatliffe guided the Gauchos to a 5-3 record in Big West play in 2012, also leading them to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
“Charlotte is a wonderful person and Gaucho,” said UCSB Director of Athletics Mark Massari. “Dr. Leland (Ted Leland, Pacific’s Director of Athletics) and Pacific made a terrific hire.”
Marty Davis, UCSB’s Director of Tennis and head men’s coach also had high praise for Scatliffe.
“Charlotte made significant contributions to the Gaucho program as a player and coach,” he said. “Her love and passion for the game will be missed greatly and we expect tremendous things from her at Pacific.”
In addition to her duties as assistant coach at UCSB, Scatliffe worked as a tennis pro at Cathedral Oaks Athletic Club in Goleta. She also worked for the Santa Barbara Tennis Patron, traveling to various elementary and junior high schools in the Santa Barbara and Goleta area, teaching children tennis during their P.E. time.
A four-year letter-winner for the Gauchos from 2004-2008, Scatliffe earned All-Big West honors in doubles three times. In her four years of competition, Scatliffe won nearly 50 doubles matches and 40 singles matches. A native of San Bernardino, Calif., Scatliffe graduated from UCSB with a BA in sociology in 2008.
