Cleveland Indians prospect Mason Radeke has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
Radeke, a Santa Barbara High grad, is playing for the Lake County Captains, the Indians’ Class A team. The right-hander played at Cal Poly before being drafted by the Indians in 2011.
Radeke struck out six batters in six shut out innings last Friday night. His Captains beat the Dayton Dragons 5-3.
The 22-year-old, who was drafted in the 35th round, was also named the Indians’ Minor League Player of the Week in June. He holds a 6-6 record with an ERA of 3.52 on the season. More impressively, Radeke is striking out batters at a rate of nearly 10 per nine innings, totaling 101 in 92 innings pitched. Nine of his 25 appearances have been starts.
