On a warm summer’s Saturday with unusually high humidity, Westmont women’s soccer hosted the Lancers of California Baptist in an exhibition game at Thorrington Field. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie, choosing not to resolve the stalemate in overtime periods.
The Warriors struck first, scoring in just the seventh minute of the game. Playing on the right side, Ashley Correa crossed the ball to Mallory Mitchell who fired from 15 yards out and found the back of the net.
In the nineteenth minute, the Lancers’ Daelyn Paul scored the equalizer from 15 yards out on the left side.
Westmont goalkeeper Lindsey Smith tallied three saves for Westmont while California Baptist keepers Meagan Bellefueille, a Dos Pueblos High School alumnae, and Leigh Ann Lindsey combined to post three Lancer saves.
The Warriors’ begin playing countable games on Tuesday when the take on non-conference opponent Baker (Kan.) in Baldwin City, then play Missouri Valley the following day in the same local.
