SBCC surrendered two second-half goals on Tuesday, including one in the 88th minute that allowed L.A. Harbor to pull out a 4-3 men’s soccer victory in Wilmington.
The Vaqueros rallied to tie the game twice in the first half. Justin Saul scored a penalty kick that made it 1-1 after Luis Mendoza was pulled down in the box in the 19th minute. Chijioke Aranotu tied it at 2 with a 40-yard blast in the 36th minute.
In the 43rd minute, two minutes before halftime, Santa Barbara took the lead 3-2 on a Jaime Sporcic goal, set up by Eduardo Guerra.
The Seahawks got the equalizer on a header in the 63rd minute and won it in the 88th minute after the defense mishandled a ball.
“We had a bit of a comedy of errors on defense,“ said sixth-year coach John Sisterson. “We were fine when we had the ball but we couldn’t defend correctly. We’ve got some work to do.“
The Vaqueros make their home debut on Friday with a 2 p.m. game against Pasadena. SBCC has won nine straight at home and is 20-2-3 over the last two seasons.
