The Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association will have three teams competing at ASA Western Nationals after the Thunder won three titles at the Central Cal ASA Championship.
The U-10, U-12 and U-14 teams will travel out-of-state for Western Nationals starting at the end of July.
The U-10 team won 9-6 in the championship game as Mason Boyle hit a home run, a triple and a single while scoring three runs. Allison Speshyock pitched a complete game for Goleta. Catcher Mae Hancock and Jenny Nichols added two singles and two runs scored each.
The U-10 teams’ west regional is in Spokane, Washington. The team is: Miranda Alvarez, Mason Boyle, Mikayla Butzke, Claeir Early, Julia Gregson, Mae Hancock, Becky McKinny, Sinai Miranda, Jenny Nichols, Allison Speshyock, Emily Trujillo
The U-12 Thunder beat Bakersfield Blast 7-1 for their championship. They will head to Salem, Oregon.
The Thunder were led at the plate in the tournament by Siena Wagner’s .714 batting average; 10 RBIs and eight runs scored. Janet Salas collected totals of .636 average with two doubles, a triple, eight RBIs and four stolen bases.
From the circle, Gabby Gandall pitched 16 shutout innings with 12 strikeouts and won three games.
Malia Carrasco contributed another eight scoreless innings. Carrasco won a game and struck out six batters.
