Displaying an amazing never-say-die attitude, Goleta Valley South’s 13/14 Junior All-Stars mounted their third-straight come-from-behind victory on Monday in an 8-7 triumph over Ojai at Page Youth Center.
Ojai held a 7-0 lead in the fifth inning but Goleta Valley put the pressure on with five runs in the bottom half to get back in the game. Nolan Cope delivered a bases-loaded double that charged the home crowd.
In the following inning, Cope came to the plate again with the bases loaded. Cope came through once more, sending a single up the middle to score two more runs. David McCarthy’s single then knocked in Cope for the winning run.
McCarthy was Goleta Valley’s starting pitching. Louie Shalhoob pitched the final three innings as Goleta Valley completed its comeback. Shalhoob faced 11 batters, giving up one hit and striking out four including the final batter of the game with the tying run at third base.
Goleta Valley continues its run tomorrow night at 5 p.m. against crosstown rival Dos Pueblos for the District 63 Championship.
