The Santa Barbara Foresters won their seventh straight matchup on Sunday, finishing off a weekend sweep of the MLB Academy Barons in a 9-2 decision.
It’s the second seven-game win streak this season for Santa Barbara, which is in first place in the California Collegiate League with an 11-4 record.
While the Foresters extended their win streak, the Barons were able to finally score off of Santa Barbara pitching to snap a scoreless innings streak that reached 32 innings. The Barons scored twice in the eighth inning to avoid three-straight shutouts.
Ryan O’Hearn gave the Foresters plenty of offense. O’Hearn was 2-for-3 and connected for a bases-clearing double in a five-run second inning. He finished with four RBIs after driving a solo home run over the fence in the sixth inning.
Richy Pedroza, Austin Davidson and Nick Melino all scored twice for Santa Barbara.
Vince Wheeland was the winning pitcher, striking out six in five innings of shut out baseball.
Kyle Ferret was 3-for-4 for MLB Academy, which totaled 10 hits as a team. The Barons (8-8) fell to third place in the CCL standings after the sweep.
The Foresters play five of their six games this week at home, including Wednesday’s 4th of July game that starts at 4:30 p.m. at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
