Santa Barbara’s Quinn Denkensohn and Ventura’s Tyler Cobian were next to flawless on their way to the U-17 gold division title at the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance National Championships in Hermosa Beach.
The pair won eight matches on their way to the championship, needing just 16 sets to get there. Denkensohn and Cobian defeated Connor Inlow and Chase Corbet in the final 21-11, 21-19.
“I was excited. It’s my second year back and the first year went pretty badly,” Denkensohn said to USA Volleyball. “It was fun coming back with a really solid partner.”
“It’s been really fun,” Cobian added. “Teamwork and communication really helped.”
In the U17 girls, Sarah Sponcil and Madeline Mertz of Arizona defeated Californians Heidi Dyer and Haley Martin 21-15, 21-18 for the gold championship.
