UCSB signee Ema Boateng, the Gatorade National Soccer Player of the Year from Cate School, has been named to Top Drawer Soccer?s ?Freshman to Watch? top-10 list.
Boateng joins the UCSB men’s soccer team after leading Cate to back-to-back CIF-Southern Section Division 7 championships. This past season he scored 32 goals and collected 19 assists, and was named CIF Player of the Year for the second time.
Boateng and the Gauchos will make their 2012 debut on Aug. 18 in the annual preseason crosstown match against Westmont College.
UCSB opens the regular season with road games at Loyola Marymount (Aug. 26), Oregon State (Aug. 31) and Gonzaga (Sept. 2). Its home opener is against Valparaiso on Sept. 7.
