Westmont’s Kate Stuart and Melissa McGregor have been named to the Capitol One Academic All-America® College Division women’s cross country/track and field teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Stuart was named to the first team while McGregor was honored as a member of the second team.
Stuart, a senior from Gig Harbor, Washington, earned a 3.86 GPA in biology while McGregor, a senior from Stockton, recorded a 3.84 in sociology. Both student-athletes graduated from Westmont in May.
Stuart is a four-time NAIA All-American. In November, Stuart earned Cross Country All-American honors by finishing fourteenth at the NAIA National Championships in Vancouver, Washington. At the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, Stuart earned All-American honors in the mile with a fourth place finish and in the distance medley relay as part of the Warriors’ fifth place team. Last month, Stuart finished fourth in the 1500 meters at the Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to capture her fourth All-American title.
Stuart is the Westmont record holder in seven women’s track and field events: 800 meters (2:13.15), 1500 meters (4:31.21), mile (4:58.14), 3,000 meters (9:48.75), 5,000 meters (17:09.72), 4×400 meter relay (3:54.34) and the distance medley relay (12:06.36).
Stuart also captured Golden State Athletic Conference Championships in the 800 meters and the 1,500 meters in late April.
McGregor placed thirty-fifth at the GSAC Cross Country Championships last November. A middle-distance runner in track and field, McGregor competed in the 800 meter, 1000 meter, 1500 meter and mile races. She also competed as a member of the Warrior relay teams.
Both McGregor and Stuart have been honored as NAIA and GSAC Scholar-Athletes and both have received the prestigious Golden Eagle Award that honors student-athletes for their accomplishments athletically, academically, spiritually and socially. Stuart also received the Dean’s Award at the 2012 commencement exercises as an outstanding student-athlete.
