With the completion of the Santa Clara Invitational, UCSB’s coach Gregg Wilson has 11 male and six female swimmers that have qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials set to take place June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Of the seventeen current or former Gauchos that have qualified, Katy Freeman is ranked highest by USA Swimming with her 2010 time of 2:26.15 in the 200-meter breast. She has hit 2:27.83 this year for the event and has qualified in the 100-meter breast as well with a time of 1:09.27.
The other female swimmers that have qualifed include Anne Marie May in the 50 free, Katie Tomkinson in the 100 free, Sophia Yamauchi in the 200 breast, Katie Records in the 200 breast and Andrea Ward in the 100 fly.
For the male swimmers, Chris Peterson, Ryan Hanni, and Kevin Kuhn all qualified in both the 50-meter free and 100-meter free. Garrett Thomspon, Kevin Ferguson and Tim Freeman have qualified in two events as well.
Just this weekend, Chris Leon met the standard for the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.88 at the Santa Clara swim meet.
Bob Hwang, Evan Simoni and Randy Aakhus have met time standards to qualify in their events as well.
