June 13, 2012 – CARY, NC – The Kay Yow Cancer Fund?, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, has announced that February 8-18 will serve as the official Play 4Kay? dates for 2013.
?It is exciting that we are entering the seventh year of this powerful breast cancer awareness initiative,? said Kay Yow Cancer Fund executive director Sue Donohoe. ?Teams and organizations across the nation have used Play 4Kay as an avenue to touch and change millions of lives. We look forward to continuing our efforts in the fight against women?s cancer through this movement.?
Previously known as the WBCA Pink Zone, Play 4Kay is an initiative that unites a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.
During Play 4Kay, women’s basketball teams and supporters across the nation will dedicate at least one game to raise breast cancer awareness and funding. Teams, fans and arenas will be decked out in pink, survivors will be honored at games, referees will blow pink whistles and donations will be collected. Proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The 2013 Play 4Kay will culminate with ESPN?s coverage on Feb. 17-18 continuing its? ongoing support of the initiative. The Play 4Kay coverage will showcase eight women?s college basketball regionalized games within two telecast windows on Sunday, Feb. 17. ESPN will also dedicate the two Big Monday games on Monday, Feb. 18, to the cause.
Since the initiative?s inception in 2007, Play 4Kay has raised approximately $1.7 million for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The donation total for the 2012 initiative will be announced in the near future. Overall, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has allocated $2,515,000 to various research projects and related programs with future projects currently under review.
