Runs were hard to come by in Wednesday’s California Collegiate League game between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, with the Foresters finally overcoming the visiting Blues 1-0 in 10 innings.
Shane Hoeschler scampered home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the tenth for the game’s only score. Hoeschler reached base on an error to lead off the inning and moved over to third base on a pinch-hit single by Nick Melino.
With two outs, San Luis Obispo’s Parker Ray threw a pitch in the dirt that got away from the catcher and allowed Hoeschler to score the winning run.
Hunter Lemke pitched a perfect 10th inning to pick up the victory for Santa Barbara.
Luke Plucheck recorded two of the Foresters’ five hits while the Blues were limited to two hits as a team throughout the game.
Ian McCarthy gave just one hit while throwing five shut-out innings. Andrew Vasquez, Willie Kuhl and Albert Minnis kept San Luis Obispo scoreless for four more innings before Lemke took the ball in the tenth.
Dylan Munger started for San Luis Obispo and held the Foresters scoreless through his six innings. Munger recorded eight strikeouts.
The decision makes Santa Barbara 6-2 in league play, tied with the Blues, now 7-3.
The two teams finish off their three-game series on Thursday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. First pitch is 5:10 p.m.
