Kevin Marsh is the new California Amateur Championship title holder after defeating Ben Geyer 4 and 3 in a 36-hole clash on Saturday at La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara.
Marsh, who graduated from high school locally at Dos Pueblos, took the lead for good on the 12th hole and clinched on the 33rd, adding to his trophy case that includes a USGA Mid-Amateur Championship and an SCGA Amateur Championship.
Marsh scored a 66 for the first 18 on Saturday and was 2-up to start the final round. An eagle and five birdies led to his 66.
Geyer then saw Marsh take four of the first six holes to go 4-up.
The tournament is a grueling one, consisting of eight rounds of competition in six days.
