Goleta Valley South Little League’s 12-under All-Stars were forced to play a full six inning game for the first time in District 63 pool play action Saturday morning and beat a plucky Foothill Little League 12-3 at Huntsinger Park in Saticoy.
First baseman/outfielder Jake Sofro led the way for the Goleta Valley, blasting a two-run homer in the first inning and finishing 3-for-3, adding a double and five RBI.
After a bit of a rocky start, Colter Nisbet twirled a complete game for Goleta Valley, striking out seven and scattering seven base. Nisbet seemed to get stronger as the game went on.
The game ended suddenly for Foothill in the sixth inning when Goleta Valley catcher, Sam Drew, picked a baserunner off first base on a snap throw to Sofro.
Goleta Valley blew open what had been a close game when they plated eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. All told, Goleta Valley sent 12 men to the plate in the inning, had five base hits and benefitted from five errors by the Foothill crew. Dylan Shugart, Trey Tank and Nisbet each had two hits to pace the offense.
Goleta Valley closes out pool play Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. versus Saticoy at Huntsinger Park.
