San Luis Obispo’s Will Cox shut down the Santa Barbara Foresters for eight innings on Thursday, setting up the Blues in a 2-0 California Collegiate League victory at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
The Foresters mustered just three hits against Cox, who collected five strikeouts. Daniel Mengden pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
The Blues scored both of their runs in the top of the second inning, as Austin Christensen and Cody Defrene crossed the plate for SLO.
The decision elevates the Blues in the CCL standings. A 2-1 series win leaves SLO at 8-3 in league play and in first place. The Foresters, at 6-3, fall behind MLB Academy (6-2).
Conejo is Santa Barbara’s next opponent. A three-game series starts on Friday at Caesaer Uyesaka Stadium.
