Carpinteria’s Timothy Jimenez recently took a step closer to the US Junior Olympic National Championships in Baltimore, Md., by finishing first in the triple jump and second in the long jump at the regional USATF Southern California Track & Field Championships at Cerritos College.
Jimenez moves on to Western States regional, also at Cerritos College, on the weekend of June 23-24. A top-five result there will qualify Jimenez for the national championships.
Competing in the Youth Boys Division (13 and 14 years old), Jimenez, 14, won a gold medal in the triple jump with a leap of 37′ 5.25″ (11.41m). In the long jump, Jimenez posted a mark of 18’5″ (5.61m), which was 16 inches behind winner Justes Nance.
The US Junior Olympic National Championships in Baltimore is scheduled for July 23-29th.
