Santa Barbara High’s Johnny Bronstema has been selected by the California Coaches Baseball Association to compete in this weekend’s North-South Series at San Diego State.
Brontsema was one of 20 chosen to represent the South from a field of 235 tryouts. The South players were decided upon following a two-day tryout at Mt. SAC last weekend.
The two teams, comprised of the top high-school juniors in the state, will play three games over the weekend. A double-header begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday with the finale on Sunday.
Brontsema, a shortstop, batted .379 in 20 games as a junior. He led the Dons in home runs (2), RBI (18), and stolen bases (6-for-6).
