Scott Winnewisser, who played football locally at Bishop Diego before going to Cal Poly for his collegiate career, has agreed to sign with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie.
The 6’5″ offensive lineman will fly to Lousiana on Monday to begin working with the team. Winnewisser went undrafted in April’s NFL Draft but earned a contract by performing well in May’s rookie minicamp.
“We kind of were thinking that I wasn’t going to get called until the end of July and August because that’s kind of when they make their next roster moves in the offseason,” Winnewisser said to the San Luis Obispo Tribune. “So, it was kind of a surprise, but I was definitely excited to hear.”
Winnewisser graduated from Bishop Diego in 2008, leading the Cardinals to a CIF title game in his senior season. The 285-pounder then was all-conference for three seasons at Cal Poly.
