Carpinteria’s softball team clinched its Frontier League championship outright on Tuesday by defeating second-place Santa Paula 6-5.
The Warriors, ranked No. 5 in Division 5, have won six straight and 11 of their last 12.
Carpinteria held a 6-1 lead until Santa Paula made things interesting with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. None of the runs were earned, but the inning closed the gap nonetheless.
Carmen Campi and Elena Schneider each recorded two hits. Campi knocked in two runs and had a double. Schneider roped a triple and scored twice.
It’s the Warriors’ second-straight league title having shared the title with Santa Clara last season.
Catalina Maldonado recorded the win in the pitcher’s circle for the Warriors (16-5-1, 9-0).
The Warriors have two games remaining. First up is a non-league game with San Marcos on Wednesday followed by their final league game on Thursday.
