Alex Valente placed third in the 100 butterfly at Saturday’s CIF Finals in Riverside, giving the Dos Pueblos freshman the Charger boys team its best individual result.
Valente entered the finals as the No. 4 seed but moved up one place with a time of 49.86.
Classmate Blake Parrish finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke in 57.93.
Valente and Parrish were the only freshmen to qualify for the finals in their respective events.
Two Dos Pueblos relay teams clocked top-20 results. The combination of Grant Schroeder, Vincent Dodero, Nick Lum and Parrish was 15th overall in the 200 freestyle relay (1:28.50). In the 400 free relay, Schroeder, Walker Bell, Valente and Lum were 19th.
