Freshman infielder Jenessa Jeppesen was named the Big West Conference’s Player of the Week after a standout performance at the plate this past weekend. The El Dorado Hills, Calif. native helped lead the Gauchos to a series sweep of visiting Cal Poly.
Jeppesen accumulated a .700 batting average (7-for-10) over the weekend, tallied two home runs and six RBI on her way to her first career honor.
The freshman tallied two hits in game one of the series and her solo home run in the bottom of the third inning tied the game at 1-1. In game two, she gave UCSB an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single and then drove home the game-winning run in the eighth inning to give the Gauchos a 5-4 victory.
In the third and final game of the series, she hit a three-run homer to give UCSB an early 3-0 lead. The Gauchos went on to post an 8-0 mercy win in six innings.
In addition to her .700 batting, she posted a 1.300 slugging percentage and a .700 on-base percentage.
Jeppesen and the rest of the Gauchos will wrap-up the regular season this Friday and Saturday at Cal State Northridge. UCSB currently sits in a three-way tie for second-place in league and is still in the hunt for its first league title.
