Dos Pueblos had a number of quality performances at Saturday’s Division 2 CIF Prelims at Moorpark College, but none bigger than Stamatia Scarvelis’ winning shot put throw.
Scarvelis, a sophomore, threw 49 feet, 5.5 inches to win the event with the best throw in the state so far this season. It was a personal best for Scarvelis, making it also a new Dos Pueblos school record.
Alemany’s Nia Britt held the previous best of 48-09 set on March 8th.
Scarvelis also finished second in the discus to qualify for next week’s CIF Southern Section Finals in both events. Her discus throw of 134-01 came on her third attempt.
DP’s two elite distance runners also qualified for finals, with Addi Zerrenner placing fifth in the 3200 and Bryan Fernandez placing fourth.
