Miles Seemann and Joshua Crisp-Jones of SBCC rallied for a semifinal win on Saturday, then dropped a pair of tight sets in the doubles final of the State Men’s Championships at Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego.
Seemann, a freshman from Santa Ynez High, and Crisp-Jones, a freshman from England, were seeded No. 4 in the South. They rallied to beat Andre Almeida-Christian Fletcher of state team champion Fresno City 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.
In the championship, they were edged by Sergio Chip-Justin Sellar of College of the Desert 7-6 (8), 6-4.
“I was very proud of our guys,” said coach Ryan Heinberg. “As two freshmen, they exceeded all expectations and overcame every obstacle in their way.”
Seemann/Crisp-Jones upset the top seed from the South in a late-night quarterfinal on Friday that started after 10 p.m. Seemann captured the Southern Cal Regional singles title last Saturday in Irvine.
