The track and field All County Youth Championships took place May 6th at SBCC La Playa Stadium this year. Notable performances were made by those who recorded more than one win in their age group’s different events.
Erica Schroeder was a member of La Colina Junior High’s girls winning 4×100 and 4×400 relays and set a new meet record in the 1500 in the 7th and 8th-grade division. With a time of 5:06.66, she broke a record that hasn’t been touched for seventeen years. She also holds the 3rd-4th grade girls 1500 meet record from 2009.
For 7th-8th grade boys, David Poindexter competed in five events to earn three first places. He took first in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.83 and first in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.24. Poindexter also won the high jump.
Timothy Jimenez also did well in the 7th-8th grade boys group with a win in the long jump, triple jump and 4×100 relay.
For the 7th-8th grade girls, Michele Garratt claimed wins in all four events she competed in. She won the high jump, 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash, and was a member of the La Colina Junior High winning 4×100 relay.
Sophia Hope, in the 5-6th grade age group, was another girl who earned four wins. She took first in the high jump, long jump, 100-meter dash and was a member of the winning Club West 4×100 relay.
In the girls 3rd-4th grade age group, Emma Raith won the high jump and long jump and helped Montecito Union win the 4×100.
Sheldon Canley won the 100-meter and 200-meter dash for the 1st-2nd boys age group.
