Cate School’s boys volleyball team dominated its playoff opener on Tuesday, downing visiting Pilibos 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 in a Division-5 match.
Bowen Baker led the team in kills with 12 on 29 attempts. Spencer Whiteman converted six kills on just 10 attempts. Hershel Jordan and Michael Castaneda added six kills each.
Baker also led the team in aces with five and committed just one service error on 15 attempts.
Pilibos, the No. 2 team from the Westside League, finishes its season with an 11-8 record.
Cate, which improves to 10-4, advances to Thursday’s second round. The Condor League champions will face the winner between Pasadena Poly and Calvary Chapel.
