Linebaugh to take over San Marcos football program

Anthony Linebaugh is the new football coach at San Marcos, according to published reports.

The Sacramento Bee and Galt Herald reported Linebaugh resigned as head football coach at Liberty Ranch High in Galt to take a coaching and teaching job at San Marcos.

San Marcos Athletic Director Abe Jahadhmy confirmed that Linebaugh is the Royals’ new football coach. He will be introduced to the media and alumni on Saturday.

Linebaugh led Liberty Ranch to a Sierra Valley Conference championship, a 9-4 overall record and spot in the division semifinals last fall in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section. The team averaged 40 points a game.

He replaces Dale Perizzolo, who guided San Marcos last season on an interim basis following the death of Jeff Hesselmeyer in July. The Royals went 1-9, with their lone win coming against Hueneme in their first game on the new turf field at the newly named Warkentin Stadium.

Linebaugh has 14 years of coaching experience. He spent 10 years at Lincoln High in Stockton, where he served as a freshman assistant and later as head coach at both the freshman and JV levels. He moved to the new school Liberty Ranch in 2009 and coached the school’s first football team at the JV level. He stayed with that group of players as the varsity coach the next two years. The team went from 1-9 in 2010 to a league championship the next year, and he was named the 2011 Sierra Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

“There was definitely a lot of emotion – Linebaugh built a great program,” Liberty Ranch athletic director Warren Schroeder told the Sacramento Bee.

Linebaugh also teaches English and physical education. His position at San Marcos includes a full-time teaching position.

Linebaugh and his wife, Kindra, have two children, daughter, Kayla, who attends Fresno State, and son, Andrew, who is graduating from Liberty Ranch this June.
