Lakey’s Lines: A little help can make BIG difference

Hello Everyone!!

I hope you guys are having a great Spring and getting ready for an even greater SUMMER!!!

My life has been pretty busy since February of this year. I have been doing contest after contest but now I am back home and I have a little bit of a break before I go to France in June. The past four months have been some of the best times of my life for so many different reasons.

Lakey had the opportunity to help teach some Brazilian youths how to surf while she was in Rio de Janeiro for the Billabong Rio Pro.

Yes, the surfing has been amazing, but I’m talking about also having the opportunity to give back.

About 12 months ago, I premiered the surf movie that I am featured in at the Lobero Theater here in Santa Barbara. All of the money from showing the film – including entry, raffles, and donations – went to an organization called HANDS FOR OTHERS or H40.

What H40 does is build?drinking wells and clean water systems in areas of the world that do not have clean water! It is run by three local families that are so amazing. That night we raised up to $16k ? enough to build one well.

Each well can provide roughly 3,000 people with clean water and save their lives!

When you do things like that it really makes you look at the big picture in life.

Another fun thing that I have been getting involved with lately is the Cousteau Society.

It is really cool for me, because so much of what they do has to do with the ocean which I am in every day. I had the opportunity to sit down with some of the people who run the company and figure out a way that I can help. What we came up with is everywhere I go I measure a certain amount of sand and count how many pieces of trash is in that area.

It is really interesting how some beaches are very clean and some are extremely dirty. After I count the trash, I send an email describing what I have found. It is just so crazy to me because it is such a simple solution to the problem.

If everyone just cleaned up after themselves (which is not hard to do), it would make the world that much more beautiful. So I encourage you, when you see a pice of trash just pick it up and throw it away.

It is easy and eventually a bunch of littles can make a BIG difference.

XOXO Lakey P.
