Garden Grove’s Jasmine Antunez shut down San Marcos in Thursday’s CIF first-round game, as the Argonauts recorded an 11-0 victory to advance in the Division-4 tournament.
Stephanie Swann was the only Royal to reach base with a single in the top of the fourth inning. Antunez improved her record to 19-4 on the season with the one-hitter.
“It was a tough game for us against a very good Garden Grove team,” explained Royals head coach Jeff Swann. “They were a solid hitting and fielding team with a very good pitcher that kept us off balance most of the day with a good changeup.”
Kristen Berlo struck out 10 batters for San Marcos.
The Royals finish their season with a record of 11-16. San Marcos enjoyed its best finish in the Channel League since 2006 and will have much of their core returning next season.
Garden Grove (20-5) will travel to Sunny Hills for Tuesday’s second round.
