The Dos Pueblos boys tennis team received a difficult draw and lost 11-7 to Peninsula in the opening round of the CIF Division 1 playoffs.
The Chargers finished second in the Channel League while Peninsula was the runner-up from the Bay League, but was also the No. 10 ranked team in the division.
“They played tough throughout the match and grinded through every point,” coach Liz Frech said.
In the singles, both Dos Pueblos freshman showed well. Patrick Corpuz took down Peninsula’s two-star recruit Mark Hashimoto.
Fellow frosh Joshua Wang complete a thrilling comeback against Hashimoto after going down 4-1 to the start the set. Wang showed true grit in his performance today as he took his AP calculus test earlier Wednesday morning.
Senior Sean Handley also had an excellent match, taking two out of his three sets.
It was a close match all the way through, but ultimately not enough for the Chargers to advance to the next round.
“We are proud of our incredible and supportive team, who gave us so much to cheer about this season,” Frech said.
