The Santa Barbara High boys tennis team pulled out a 13-5 victory on Friday over Woodbridge, the team that eliminated them from last year’s playoffs.
The Dons came into the match as the No. 5 team in CIF Division I, while Woodbridge was ranked eighth.
“Our team was very focused on this match as we knew Woodbridge knocked us out of the playoffs last year in a close match,” coach Greg Tebbe said. “So we were determined to get some revenge.”
That focus led to a strong finish in which Santa Barbara took five of the last six sets.
“As a coach you want your team to be mentally tough and at all times, so I am pleased to see our team perform this way, especially in a road match against a top team,” Tebbe said.
The Dons were led in the singles by Graham Massen’s 3-0 record.
In the doubles, the teams of Logan Liddell/Morgan Hale and Mitchell Kuhn/Jack Damen both went undefeated on the day.
Santa Barbara will advance to the quarterfinals and face the winner of Palos Verdes and Westlake. The location of the match will be determined on Saturday.
