Dons doubles teams ousted in CIF quarterfinals

Two Santa Barbara’s doubles teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the CIF Individual Boys Tennis Tournament on Friday in Seal Beach.

Logan Liddell and Morgan Hale knocked off the Palos Verdes duo of Tony Dellovade-Kent Kuka, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the Round of 16 and then fell to Austin Rapp and Jack Felich of Palm Desert in a tight three-set match, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

The Dons team of Jack Damen and Mitchell Kuhn opened with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Brandon Kim of Brea Olinda before falling to a team from Harvard Westlake, 6-3, 6-2.

Liddell and Hale were on the cusp of advancing to the semifinals, but Rapp and Felich came up with clutch plays to pull out the narrow win.

“Our guys played good enough to win,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “It was a great match. That was the best doubles match I’ve seen all year. (Logan and Morgan) played a great match, the other team just played a little better.”
