Each of the three local Channel League schools tasted success at Monday’s CIF Central Coast Team Divisional at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.
Santa Barbara High’s team won the divisional title while San Marcos’ Thayer White was the only golfer under par and earned medalist honors with a one-under 71.
Dos Pueblos finished third overall to become one of three teams to advance to Thursday’s Southern Section Championships at Rancho San Marcos.
Spencer Mikles and Mickey Kirby carded 73s for Santa Barbara, with Ryan Stoll’s 74 helping keep the Dons’ score down. Santa Barbara’s final tally was 378.
Among Santa Barbara’s highlights was Mikles sinking a 50-foot putt for eagle on his third-to-last hole and Stoll recovering from the bushes on the eighth hole with an up-and-down for par.
It was the fifth time in the past six years that Santa Barbara advanced through the divisional round. The Dons finished fifth last season.
“This was especially nice for the seniors,” said Dons head coach James Bedard. “They felt like they finished prematurely last year.”
Arroyo Grande also qualified for Thursday’s championships with a score of 381. Dos Pueblos edged Ventura for the final spot 382-385.
Carson Curtis’ 74 was low for the Chargers, which saw six golfers score 78 or less. Michael Nam, Lane Fuller, Grant Amerson and Nick DeHeras filled out DP’s round with matching 77s. Michael Yi’s throw-away score of 78 would have been the best round on two of the 16 teams competing.
Camarillo’s Joey Ahn finished second to White amongst individuals with an even-par 72.
