Dos Pueblos’ boys swim team won 10 of 12 events at Thursday’s Channel League’s Swimming and Diving Championships to run away with the team title by 100 points.
Ventura placed second and Santa Barbara came in third.
The Chargers’ trio of freshmen made a big impact by winning several races in Automatic CIF Qualifying times.
Blake Parrish and Alex Valente nearly broke Channel League Championship meet records in their top events. Valente won the 100 fly in 51.07 seconds and Parrish took the 100 breastroke in 58.69. Both times were less than a second from the record.
Fellow ninth-grader Walker Bell edged out Valente on the final leg of the 200 IM. Both recorded Automatic CIF times but Bell’s was ever-so-slightly better at 1:57:00 to 1:57.09.
Dos Pueblos senior Nick Lum recorded a personal best in the 200 free, winning the title with an automatic qualifying time of 1:42.29.
Santa Barbara’s Tarry Burkhardt finished second in the 100 breastroke to Parrish. Cristian Bridley and Evan Robertson had strong showings with personal bests. Bridley was third in the 100 backstroke and Robertson placed fourth in the 100 free.
The top swimmers from the meet will head to Riverside for the CIF Prelims on Thursday.
