The Cate School baseball team beat Thacher 8-0 on Wednesday to pull within one game of the Dunn School, who leads the Condor League.
Justin Lucchesi pitched all seven innings for the Rams, earning a complete-game shutout and his sixth win of the year. Lucchesi only allowed three hits and struck out eight batters while walking two and hitting two. He also helped his own cause by going 2-for-3 from the plate.
The game was tight through five innings, but Cate broke it open in the bottom of the sixth inning with a five-run explosion.
The Rams (9-2 overall, 2-1 CL) will play Dunn away on Friday for a chance to move into a tie for first.
