Cate, Carpinteria split Frontier League swim titles

Cate School not only hosted the Frontier League Swimming Championships for the first time in school history, but its girls team came through with the Rams’ first-ever league title on Thursday.

The Rams edged Carpinteria 364-346 by winning the final 4×400 freestyle relay. The team consisted of Lydia Stevens, Caroline Montgomery, Chloe King and Sophia Soriano in that order.

Carpinteria is the champion in the boys competition, topping second-place Cate and five other schools with 270 points.

Stevens, Montgomery and King also helped Cate dominate the 500 freestyle by improving on their previous CIF times. The same in the 100 freestyle, as Montgomery, Isabella Thomas, Anna Satterfield, Sarah Griffin and Faith Donaldson posted personal bests.

Cate’s Sam Pelham met CIF consideration for the first time this season in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
