Three new school records were established as Westmont Track and Field competed in a tri-meet at Fresno Pacific on Friday. Westmont women took second place with 110 points. Fresno Pacific was first with 135 points while Biola scored 105 points. On the men’s side, Fresno Pacific won the event with 133 points, Biola placed second with 128 and Westmont finished third with 75 points.
Senior Kate Stuart completed the 3,000 meter run in under ten minutes for the first time in school history. Her time of 9:48.75 was more then 20 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Stuart is already the school record holder in the mile and 5,000 meter races and in the distance medley relay.
Freshman Elysia Hodges set a new school record of 24.98 in the 200 meters with a first place finish. Hodges also placed first in the 400 meters with a time of 56.01, second in school history only to her own best time of 55.60. Both times make her an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in May. Hodges is also the school record holder in the 400 meter hurdles.
Hodges, along with Laurel Stormans, Hannah Jacobson and Amanda Chevalier also rewrote the school record in the 4×100, finishing second with a time of 48.77.
Kristin Hempy won the javelin with a throw of 39.76 (130-5), earning a provisional qualification mark for nationals. Chevailer claimed first place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.50.
On the men’s side, Christian Hatchett won the 400 meters race in a time of 49.56. Shane Rowan posted an automatic qualification mark of 14.36 while finishing third in the triple jump.
