Five days after shooting one of its best scores of the year, the SBCC men’s golf team struggled in WSC No. 7 on Monday at Oakmont CC in Glendale. The Vaqueros shot a season-worst 417 and finished sixth in the seven-team field.
David Aarons, Trevor Gorski and Nick Cox each shot 81 for the Vaqueros (23-19), who remained in third place, one game ahead of Ventura. Austin Kaiser of Hancock was the medalist at 2-under 70.
Glendale took first, beating Canyons by five shots with the highest winning score of the year (390).
“That was one of our poorest matches and it’s disappointing because the door was open to do something today,“ said coach Chuck Melendez. “This course is difficult and most of the scores were high.”
The Vaqueros will play in WSC No. 8 on Monday at Santa Maria CC, starting at 10:30 a.m.
