SBCC shortstop Steven Reveles was selected as the Southern Cal Player of the Week by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association. He’s the first Vaquero to receive the honor this season.
The freshman shortstop from Dos Pueblos High went 7-15 in three games (.467) with six RBIs. On April 19, he was 2-5 with four RBIs in a 12-11 victory over Hancock. On April 21, he had two hits and drove in two runs as the Vaqueros routed No. 4-ranked Cuesta 17-5.
Going into this week, Reveles was the Vaquero leader in batting average (.344) and RBIs (27). He was second in slugging percentage at .472 for SBCC, which went 2-1 last week.
On Monday, Reveles was named Athlete of the Week by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.
The Vaqueros beat Cuesta for the second straight game on Tuesday (9-8 in 10 innings) to move within a game of first place in the WSC North with two to play. Cuesta and Moorpark are first at 11-7 and SBCC is 10-8.
The Vaqueros, who’ve scored 38 runs in the last three games, reached the .500 mark (17-17) for the first time since March 8. They have two games remaining — Thursday at home vs. Oxnard and Friday at Oxnard. Both start at 2:30 p.m.
