Maldonado’s streak snapped, Warriors still win

Catalina Maldonado’s scoreless innings streak came to an end on Wednesday in a 9-2 non-league victory for Carpinteria over Hueneme.

Maldonado reached 46 consecutive innings of shut-out softball, a streak that was snapped with two runs from the Vikings in the bottom of the seventh. Neither of the runs were earned as the Warriors committed three errors.

“We lost our focus and unfortunately for Cat, we lost her scoreless streak,” explained Carpinteria head coach Henry Gonzales.

Maldonado had a huge day at the plate to compliment her performance in the pitcher’s circle. The junior crushed two home runs and recorded four hits and four RBIs in total.

“She’s teearing it up right now, that’s for sure,” Gonzales said.

Vanessa Vega also had a good day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Elyse Rodriguez and Elena Schnieder added two more hits each.

The victory pushes the Warriors’ season record to 12-5-1.
