Carpinteria’s softball team recorded its fifth straight shutout on Saturday before falling in the second game of a doubleheader with Pacifica.
Catalina Maldonado threw a no-hitter and allowed just one baserunner in a 16-0 victory for Carpinteria. In game two, the Tritons erased a 9-1 Carpinteria lead with a nine-run fourth inning and went on to win 14-13 in eight innings.
Before Pacifica scored its first run in the third inning of Game 2, Carpinteria had held its opponents scoreless for 34 innings.
Maldonado struck out 10 batters and walked none. The Tritons’ only base-runner came from a hit batsman.
Dakotah Wilcox clubbed two home runs and finished 3-for-4. Maldonado aided her pitching effort with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Warriors were going for their sixth straight win in the second game. Carpinteria totaled 13 runs and 17 hits but three errors were costly. Two of them led to the winning runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Tatiana Verdugo made her first start for the Warriors.
“She pitched well enough to win but our defense didn’t back her up like they should have,” said Carpinteria head coach Henry Gonzales.
Elena Schnieder was 4-for-5 in the second game with two runs scored. Carmen Campi scored three times on two hits. Maldonado knocked in four runs on four hits.
