Maldonado gets third straight shutout

Carpinteria’s Catalina Maldonado did not allow a run on Tuesday against Bishop Diego and recorded her third shutout in as many games while the Warriors went on to win 6-0.

“Our focus was solid again today for the third game in a row,” Warriors ccoach Henry Gonzales said. “We’re playing pretty good ball right now.”

Maldonado finished the Frontier League matchup with five strikeouts and no walks while giving up just three hits in seven innings.

For the Cardinals, Madison Ballard kept the Carpinteria offense at bay all the way into the sixth inning. But in the final two stanzas, the Warriors drove in six runs.

The game was broken open in the seventh when Tatiana Verdugo crushed a three-run shot over the fence to score the final runs of the day.

Bishop Diego plays next at Villanova on Thursday.

Carpinteria (8-4-1 overall, 3-0 FL) will continue its season on Thursday at Santa Clara.
