The Carpinteria High baseball team fell just short of a comeback victory in its road game against Oak Park on Friday, but lost 7-6.
The Warriors entered the seventh inning of the Tri-Valley League matchup down by three runs and were only able to score two in the final stanza.
“Each time we got behind, the players stayed calm and fought back,” head coach Pat Cooney said. “Hard to come out on the short end.”
Diego Martinez kept Carpinteria’s hopes alive in the fifth inning when he ripped a two-out single to score two runs and help close the four-run hole his team was in.
Mo Sanchez and Max Damron also had solid days at the plate, finishing with three and two hits, respectively.
Carpinteria (8-8 overall, 3-3 TVL) will continue its season on Wednesday at Grace Brethren.
