SBCC freshman Tristan Lake won his fifth 400 hurdles race of the year on Friday, qualifying first in the WSC Track & Field Prelims at La Playa Stadium.
Lake captured his heat in the best time of the day, 54.06. The Vaqueros had six men and five women runners qualify for the WSC Championships on Friday at Moorpark College.
The prelims featured more than 600 athletes from 12 schools.
Half of the field event finals were held on Friday. Nick Smith took third in the long jump at 6.64 meters while Chase Lee was fifth in the discus (42.49m). Both earned spots in the Southern Cal Prelims on Saturday, May 5 at San Diego Mesa.
In the women’s field event finals, Zoe Davis placed third in the shot put (11.69m) and discus (36.32m). Kaytee Krivulka was sixth in the discus (33.41m) and also advances to the So Cal Prelims, along with Davis.
In men’s running events, SBCC’s Cody Uhrig qualified for the finals in the 200 and 400 meters. He ran 22.54 in the 200 and won his heat in the 400 in 49.76.
Other men’s qualifiers were Cliff Lekas in the 200 (22.51), Freddie Maldonado and Matthew Bailey in the 800, Bailey in the 1,500 (4:09) and German Hernandez in the 400 hurdles (58.29).
In the women’s races, Sara Jungersten qualified in the 100 (12.96) and 200 (26.41) for the Vaqueros. Kelly Mayer and Harley Arce advanced in the 1500 in times of 5:15.30 and 5:29.78, respectively.
Kate Earle qualified in the 100 hurdles (16.34) and Katie Voss earned a spot in the 400 hurdles final in a time of 1:09.02.
