One swing made the difference in Tuesday’s Channel League baseball clash between rivals Dos Pueblos and San Marcos.
Jimmy Brakka struck out eight Chargers in a 5-1 loss
Joe Huthsing blasted a grand slam in the first inning to power the Chargers to a 5-1 win at Joe Mueller Field.
The win completes a 4-0 first round of league play for the Chargers (12-6). San Marcos (7-8) is 1-3 after the first round.
Huthsing’s slam was enough to decide a pitcher’s duel between his teammate Luke Loggins and Jimmy Brakka of San Marcos. Both pitchers allowed three hits.
Loggins walked only one in improving to 6-2.
Brakka again was a tough-luck pitcher. After giving up the big blow, the senior dominated. At one point, he struck out six straight Chargers. He finished with eight strikeouts.
The teams play again on Thursday at Dos Pueblos.
