Sean Handley went 3-0 for Dos Pueblos’ boys tennis team on Wednesday, leading the Chargers to a 16-2 non-league win over visiting Cate School.
Handley swept his three sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-0. His 6-4 win was special in that it was the first set he’s taken from Cate senior Blake Mackall. The pair has played each other for years in high school and junior tennis.
“It definitely feels good,” Handley said after his third set win. “I mean, winning that match carried over into my next matches. I was able to attack all of my shots. I wasn’t tentative about anything.”
The Chargers swept all nine doubles sets. Jake Roberts and Caleb Franzen teamed to capture three of those. Mason Casady won two sets with Joshua Wang before winning another set with Ankush Khemani.
Mackall came back for Cate to win his last two sets.
The Chargers improve to 7-2 overall with their second win of the season over Cate. Dos Pueblos plays its third match in as many days on Thursday at San Marcos.
Cate falls to 5-4 overall.
