SBCC went ahead 3-2 in Tuesday’s baseball game with a run in the 11th, then fell to Hancock 4-3 on a bases-loaded, walk-off single by Mitch Hollingsworth.
Mark Jebbia and Steve Reveles were both 3-for-5 for the Vaqueros (14-17, 7-8) in the WSC North game at Santa Maria. Jebbia’s one-out RBI single tied it at 2-2 in the ninth and his RBI double scored Reveles with the go-ahead run in the 11th.
Hancock committed three errors in the ninth and both of Santa Barbara’s runs were unearned.
With the bases loaded and one out in the Hancock 11th, reliever Shane Turner hit Mike Foley to force in the tying run. Hollingsworth followed with his game-winning hit.
“This one hurts a little bit,” said coach Jeff Walker. “We had a good effort to score twice and tie it in the ninth. Then we had two outs with a runner on first in the 11th and couldn’t close it out.”
Moorpark (10-5) beat Cuesta 9-7 to move into a first-place tie with the Cougars atop the WSC North. The Vaqueros are tied for third with Hancock (12-19, 7-8).
Danny Nieves turned in a solid seven innings. The sophomore left-hander allowed one run on four hits with 12 groundouts. Joe Perez was also strong for the Bulldogs, holding SBCC to two unearned runs on six hits over 8 1/3 innings.
The Vaqueros host Hancock on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
