Led by three seniors who were playing their final home match, the UC Santa Barbara women’s tennis team posted a shutout win over UC Riverside on Sunday, 7-0.
The Gauchos easily claimed the doubles point with all three of the seniors taking part. At No. 1, seniors Natalia Lozano and Jordan Dockendorf defeated UCR’s Jamie and Taylor Raney, 8-2. At No. 2, senior Sofia Novak teamed with Erica Cano for a resounding 8-0 win over Kate Bergeson and Courtney Pattugalan. The No. 3 doubles match was not completed.
In singles, it was once again the seniors leading the way. Novak defated Jamie Raney at No. 1, 6-3, 6-2, Lozano topped Taylor Raney at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2. Also, Dockendorf recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kate Bergeson at No. 5.
In addition to the senior trio, UCSB had wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 from April Scatliffe, Paola Cos and Casey Reede respectively.
The win improves the Gauchos to 10-13 overall and 5-3 in the Big West. They will next play at the Big West Championship Tournament in Indian Wells from April 27-29.
