Ventura’s Matt Thomas turned in a one-under 69 on Wednesday, helping the Cougars hold off visiting Dos Pueblos 369-378 at Buenaventura Golf Course.
As a result, Ventura stands at 3-1 in Channel League play after the first round of play while Dos Pueblos falls to 2-2.
Lane Fuller’s 74 was low for the Chargers. Carson Curtis, Michael Yi, Nick DeHeras and Michael Nam were all within two strokes of Fuller.
“I thought all of our kids played a pretty solid round,” said Chargers head coach Rob Schiff. “We didn’t make as many putts as we needed to and that’s what it comes down to.”
The Chargers, 10-4 overall, play again on Thursday at Sandpiper in their second Channel League match of the season against San Marcos.
